Soap making has been traced back to 2800 BC when Babylonians and ancient Egyptians began combining animal fats with sodium salts of various kinds of acids. The key to making soap is the reaction between these two components, which produces a substance known as glycerol ester. In 1820, a French chemist created the first true soap by mixing vegetable oils with alkaline salts. This method, known as saponification, is still used today in liquid soaps and bar soaps.

Cold-processed soaps are made using a cold-process method, meaning that no external heat is applied during the production process. As a result, many beneficial properties of the natural ingredients used to make them are retained, such as vitamins and minerals that can be lost during other methods of soap making. The milder ingredients and lack of harsh chemicals used in cold processed soaps make them more suitable for sensitive skin than traditional liquid body wash products. Furthermore, cold-processed soaps typically have fewer preservatives than liquid body washes, making them more environmentally friendly.
