So there, I said it: one of my secret, most profound remedies for kicking chronic illness’s ass was a coffee enema. Yep, I put coffee up my butt. And guess what? You should too! Honestly, something I never thought I’d be excited about has become my quarterly ritual for deep healing that’s changed my life, digestion, and overall health.

I even became an affiliate for my favorite enema brand—yeah, I love it that much! So, if you’re looking to cleanse your system, detox your body, sweep out your liver, and boost your energy, keep reading!

What Is a Coffee Enema?

A coffee enema is exactly what it sounds like. You take coffee—specifically green, organic, unroasted coffee—heat it with water, and, well... shoot it up your pie hole. I know, I know, you’re probably thinking, “Why would anyone ever do this?!”

Well, let me tell you, enemas are old-school healing magic. There are a few solid reasons why this works:

Why Do an Enema?

It Removes Stubborn Gunk
Let’s get real: over time, things get stuck in your intestines. Gunk clings to the intestinal lining, especially if you’ve got digestive issues, and a coffee enema helps sweep all that out. It’s like hitting the reset button for your gut.

How to perform an enema step-by-step

  1. Prep your body

Drink a solution of chlorella or spirulina (about 2 tablespoons) in water or a smoothie about an hour before the treatment. This ensures heavy metals and toxins move out with the waste. It helps prep the body for the detox and acts as a sidekick.

2. Prepare your Green Coffee

Grind the coffee beans in a blender or coffee grinder, it doesn’t need to be super fine, just break down the bean.

Now, take 3 cups of distilled, clean, pure water and simmer the ground beans for at least 30 minutes; the longer, the better.

3. Get your Enema Kit Ready

Prep your tools. This is the enema kit I use, and I ensure everything is cleaned and prepared prior to use, including sanitation (I use an alcohol soak) to get it ready.

I love to do this in the bath or shower, so that’s where my setup happens.

4. Fill Your Bag

When the solution is ready, add another 1.5 cups of cooler water so you don’t have to wait for the hot water to cool down, and so you don’t burn your butt. Please don’t burn your butt!

5. Now, for the Fun Part

Use a slippery solution (you know, lube or something) around the tube that goes up your butt. Squatting helps but isn’t necessary. You want it up there as far as it can safely go. It may feel a bit uncomfortable at first, but it should not hurt.

6. Go at your own pace

Use the gauge on the side to determine the pace, allowing the solution to enter the body slowly.

Tips for when you it’s “all up in there”

  1. Get cozy, the solution should stay in for at least 30 minutes for maximum benefits, so don’t go anywhere. This is why I choose the bath or shower.

  2. Make it a ritual, listen to music, read, meditate.

  3. Sit on your right side, to ensure the liver is activated

  4. Do light stretches, or gently rub your belly in circular motions

  5. Don’t push or force, let the solution do its job

  6. Avoid alcohol and heavy/ greasy foods for the rest of the day. Take it easy!

How to Perform a Back Flush, get more nourishment!

If you choose to do a backflush, here’s the prep:

  1. Use Distilled Water
    Always start with distilled water for your solution.

  2. Prepare the Solution
    If you’re using a probiotic, mix it the night before so it has time to activate. If you’re using a tea, simmer it and mix it with cool water immediately. Aim for much less water—about 1 cup.

  3. Administer the Solution
    Shoot the solution right up there and try to hold it in if possible. Don’t worry too much if you end up using the bathroom anyway, but aim to keep it in for at least 15 minutes.

  4. Notice the Changes
    You’ll notice changes immediately! After my first backflush, I felt a wave of relief: all the pain left my body, I had more energy, and I felt like I was repairing my gut.
